EURO 2016, Northern Ireland v Germany, Parc des Princes, Paris, France

Northern Ireland 0 – 1 Germany

Northern Ireland fans I applaud you. You were incredibly entertaining on the metro to the stadium, even more well behaved with your bottles of wine outside the stadium, and you stayed on mass at the final whistle, for almost an hour despite your loss singing Will Griggs on Fire.

The game, like all the ones we attended so far at Euro 2016 was average at best.

Women Of The World Festival, Alte Oper, Frankfurt, Germany

Terrible show this one, easily the worst Garbage gig I’ve ever attended. The sound was terrible in the stalls, the lighting didn’t seem to hit the front of the stage and the band didn’t really seem that into it. Opening track Sometimes doesn’t work, maybe this will change once the album is out, there was also no Butch Vig due to illness. Not a great way to start off the new material, hopefully the rest of the shows improve.

England v Germany, Wembley Stadium, London

England 0-1 Germany

A good 30 minute performance from England but no real threat up front despite playing a strong attacking line of Rooney and Sturridge. The second string German side then turned it on and scored three minutes after entering our half for the first time.

I don’t think England played bad the whole night but the game pretty much summed up where England are in World Football right now. We have a long way to go to compete with the best in the World. If we make the Quarter finals in Brazil next year then it has been a major success.

Goal Scorers:

  • Germany: Mertesacker 39′

Garbage, E-Werk, Koln, Germany

Not a great gig, garbage and Superbus tried their best but the crowd just wasn’t moving, Shirley pretty much sang 75% of the gig directly to the area where we were as we were the only guys moving around.

Feeder, Luxor, Köln, Germany

The ticket for this gig I had to get from a German website, when they dispatched it they failed to put UK on the address. The ticket ended up in Cranbrook, Canada before being redirected to Cranbrook, Kent (UK).

The show itself was meant to be at Underground on November 6, 2010 but was cancelled due to “Recording commitments and extra ticket demand”. The real reason (I believe) is that Taka had let his passport almost expire and was having issues trying to renew it. Had it slipped he feared that he would never had got back into the UK. Which to be honest is a totally acceptable reason to cancel a show.

Anyhow the gig was rescheduled and I never attended it due to a couple of reasons which was a shame as I’d missed Feeder’s appearance at The Roundhouse last month through illness and they are playing some new material.

Rock Am Ring Festival, Nurburgring, Germany

This weekend was all about Mel.

First she did a bungy jump, then a tattoo but topped the lot by turning round to a German girl and screaming “Fuck off or I’ll rip your head off and shit down your neck”, purely wonderful 🙂
